What are alternative vaccines? Do my children need to get them?

Optional vaccines are vaccines that are not included in the Ministry of Public Health’s immunization plan. Parents can decide whether or not to let their children get vaccinated, depending on their child’s risk of the disease or the needs of each family.

Booster vaccines help prevent other diseases that are not a major problem in Thailand. Some are basic vaccines that have been developed to have fewer side effects. Parents who are not sure which booster vaccines to get can consult their doctor about the type of booster vaccine that is right for their child.

How do alternative vaccines protect against disease?

Vaccines are the introduction of dead germs, weakened germs that cannot cause disease, or toxins from germs into the body to allow the immune system to build immunity against those germs, depending on the type of vaccine.
